Executive Summary

The survey also found that about seven in 10 respondents participated in COVID-19 relief programs from the 2020-2021 school year to 2022-2023. A large portion of those who did participate took part in the Payment Protection Program (PPP).
Few of the schools that responded to the survey indicated that they had had contact with the U.S. Department of Education (DoE) within the last five years. Only 9% of respondents reported that they had had some form of contact with the DoE, either by responding to a survey or participating in a webinar.
Six out of 10 respondents indicated that their state or municipality did not offer any school choice program or that they did not know for certain whether such a program was offered. In the 2023-2024 school year, 44% participated in state or municipality programs, and 52% did not. For respondents in states and municipalities that currently do not have a school choice program, only two in 10 indicated that they would participate in a school choice program if they were given the opportunity to do so; 60% were unsure.
