Richard Oberdorfer has been History Department chair at Norfolk Academy (Virginia) since 1984. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1945, and holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science from the University of the South (1967) and a master of arts in history from the University of Florida (1970).
